If you’ve used an Apple device any time since 2014, you might be entitled to part of a $95 million class action settlement. The lawsuit claims Siri, Apple’s voice assistant, sometimes recorded private conversations without the user’s knowledge. Even though Apple denies any wrongdoing, they’ve agreed to settle, and now eligible users have a chance to claim compensation.
This case stems from complaints that Siri was unintentionally triggered and picked up sensitive chats, which may have later been used for targeted ads. The settlement includes a wide range of Apple products, from iPhones and iPads to MacBooks and HomePods.
The deadline to submit a claim is July 2, 2025. If you owned a Siri-enabled Apple device between 2014 and 2024 and experienced an accidental activation during a private moment, you may be able to receive up to $100, depending on how many devices you owned and how many people file a claim.
What’s The Apple Siri Lawsuit All About?
Back in March 2021, a group of Apple users filed a lawsuit in California, saying that Siri was listening in when it wasn’t supposed to. According to them, Siri would sometimes turn on by accident and start recording conversations that were meant to be private. Even more worrying, some of that data may have ended up in the hands of third parties—like ad companies.
Some people noticed that after talking about certain brands or products out loud, they’d suddenly start seeing ads related to what they’d just said. Others believed their devices were listening even when they hadn’t said “Hey Siri.” A report from The Guardian in 2019 also revealed that Apple contractors occasionally heard private info while reviewing Siri recordings. Apple responded by saying only a small portion of recordings were reviewed, and it was for improving the service.
Despite denying any wrongdoing, Apple agreed to settle. So now, if you meet the criteria, you could claim a piece of that $95 million pie.
Who Can Make a Claim?
To qualify, you need to meet two basic conditions:
- You must have owned or purchased a Siri-enabled Apple device between September 17, 2014, and December 31, 2024.
- You must swear under oath that you experienced an unintentional Siri activation during a private or sensitive conversation.
That’s it. If this has happened to you, you’re eligible to file a claim.
What Apple Devices Are Included?
If you used any of the following, you’re in the eligible group:
- iPhone
- iPad
- Apple Watch
- MacBook
- iMac
- HomePod
- Apple TV streaming box
- iPod Touch
You can claim for up to five devices, and the maximum payout per device is $20. So, if you had five eligible devices, you could potentially get up to $100.
How to File Your Claim
Apple customers can go to the official Lopez Voice Assistant Settlement website to submit a claim. Some users may have already received a claim code by email or mail, which makes the process even easier. But if you didn’t, you can still file online without it.
Just be sure to submit your claim by July 2, 2025.
When Will You Get Paid?
That’s still a bit up in the air. A court hearing is scheduled for August 1, 2025, to give the final go-ahead on the settlement. If everything gets approved and no one files an appeal, payments should start shortly afterward. Updates will be posted on the settlement website.
Even if you didn’t notice anything strange with your Apple devices, it’s worth checking if you’re eligible. This settlement could be a small but meaningful compensation for something that may have felt like a minor tech glitch—yet crossed the line when it came to privacy.
